Setup Instructions for NUI Galway Staff/Students
eduroam (Educational Roaming) facilitates roaming educational users obtaining wireless internet access with their laptops at other member sites by authenticating with the user credentials they normally use at their home location. See www.eduroam.ie/ for more information on member sites.
eduroam is available in all wifi enabled areas of the campus.
NUI Galway is a full eduroam participant offering both:
Visitors to NUI Galway
Visitors must have their wireless clients configured to use WPA2 with AES encryption and have tested their authentication before arriving onsite. The ISS Service Desk does not provide support for visitors client configuration and visitors must contact their home instution for support.
NUI Galway Staff/Students
The configuration has been tested and is supported on
XP versions below SP3 are not supported. WPA2 requires at least SP2 and may work.
The only supported client is the wireless client built into the Operating System. There is no support for third party wireless clients but these should work if parameters as indicated in the setup instructions below are followed.
Ensure your wireless client is configured to support WPA2 with AES encryption. Please refer to your home institution for advice.

The eduroam website contains comprehensive documentation covering other operating systems and 802.1x supplicants. Refer to these documents to manually configure your client. To complete these manual installation based on the HeaNet documentation you'll need some information specific to NUI Galway. The documentation contains generic information as in column B but you will need to replace with with NUI Galway specific information as in column C. If any of the details in your WiFi profile are incorrect, then your authentication will fail and you will not gain wifi access via eduroam.

NUI Galway Staff/Students
Please configure and test eduroam access on campus in NUI Galway before travelling to a remote location. If eduroam does not work on-campus it will not work off-campus.
Check the eduroam information pages for the location to which you are travelling. Each eduroam location publishes information locally. Ensure that the location follows the eduroam access standards.
If you use Windows 7 and are travelling to a location which only support WPA1 with tkip encryption, please contact the ISS Service Desk for instructions on configuring WPA1.
