The NUIGWiFi service is designed to provide students, staff and registered guests with easy access to the Internet. You connect to NUIGWiFi automatically and authenticate with your user ID and password via your web browser e.g. Internet Explorer.
Conference participants must contact the
Conference Office for temporary access to the wireless network.
Guests visiting the University may obtain a temporary account via their staff sponsor from the
Service Desk.

The NUIGWiFi service is a 802.11 b/g network. Authentication takes place via Web re-direction to an authentication portal. Ports open on the service are www,https,dns,ftp,ssh,nat-t,ipsec vpn, port 587 (outbound) and ports above TCP 1025. Note that port 445 is blocked for NUIGWiFi. Additional ports can be requested via the Service Desk (eMail
servicedesk
nuigalway.ie ext 5777). Requests will be considered in light of best practices with respect to network security.
Important: Wireless clients connecting to this service do have some firewall protection via the University firewall but it is strongly advised that all clients install appropriate personal firewall and
anti-virus software and
spyware.
Note: Peer-to-peer traffic is not facilitated.
All Operating Systems should work but note that Information Solutions and Services does not currently provide support for Microsoft Vista.
All browsers should work. Information Solutions and Services recommend Internet Explorer as your browser for the wireless service.
Browser setting should be Automatic or No Proxy. In Internet Explorer, from the Tools menu, choose Internet Options and click the Connections tab. Click LAN Settings. Automatically Detect Settings should be the only box ticked.
If you cannot see NUIGWiFi in your wireless connections, please restart your computer as a first step and ensure that your wireless card is enabled/switched on.
When the NUIGWiFi service is visible, the browser will automatically be directed to the wireless authentication page. If you do not see authentication page, please note the following:
