2017 CÚRAM Seminar Series - Dr Yvonne Dombrowski Centre for Experimental Medicine Queen’s University Belfast

Dr Yvonne Dombrowski carried out her PhD in the laboratory of Prof Wischhusen at the Julius-Maximilian University Wurzburg, Germany, where she investigated tumour immune escape mechanisms. During her postdoctoral training Yvonne studied the role of inflammasomes in skin autoimmunity at the LMU Munich before she joined Dr Denise Fitzgerald’s group at Queen’s University Belfast in 2012. Subsequently, Yvonne was awarded a 3-year Early Career Fellowship from the Leverhulme Trust to start her independent research and in 2016 she became a lecturer in the Centre for Experimental Medicine at QUB. Her group’s research focuses on innate immune mechanisms in tissue repair, with particular interest in inflammasomes and their role in regenerative inflammation. The group’s goal is to get a better understanding of the underlying immune mechanisms in tissue regeneration, which will identify novel therapeutic targets that can be harnessed to direct functional tissue repair. Dr Dombrowski is a Lindau Nobel Laureate meeting alumnus, she won several prizes for her work and published in over 30 articles to date with recent publications in Nature Neuroscience and Science Translational Medicine.
