Other Facilities available on Campus
Students are offered the following accommodation options: on-campus accommodation with a small number of ground-floor apartments reserved for students with disabilities; lodgings; self-catering accommodation; shared houses; shared flats. Personnel will help students find accommodation and also offer advice on tenancy matters.
There is no area of concern to students which falls outside the scope of the University Counsellors. Students can get help and support for a wide range of problems. The free service is absolutely confidential and there no formalities.
As well as providing spiritual guidance, the role of the chaplains extends into complimenting and supporting the wide range of student development, welfare and support services.
A free general medical service is provided in the student health unit. The opening hours of the unit are from 9:00am to 3:00pm with emergency cover between 3:00pm and 5:00pm. In an emergency there is 24 hour cover by calling 087 2623997.
The University offers a diverse range of extra-curricular activities whereby a student is offered a unique opportunity for social interaction, personal growth and enjoyment. There are 38 thriving
sports clubs and up to seventy
societies. There is a selection of non-competitive recreational sporting activities, a Leisure Gym and a variety of entertainments organised by the Students' Union on and off campus. A number of students with disabilities use the gym and also enjoy activities such as kayaking.
Sports Scholarship
NUI Galway offers a number of sports scholarships to student athletes of outstanding calibre who register as students of the University each academic year. One of these scholarships is designated for a student with a disability. Application forms and further information are available from:
