The Master of Education (M.Ed.) is a part-time, modular and staged post-graduate programme. This two-stage structure enables participants to pursue their in-career professional development in a flexible manner in an era of lifelong learning. Stage one of the programme involves the completion of the one year part-time Postgraduate Diploma in Professional Education (PDPES) or an equivalent qualification. The M.Ed. It combines a taught component (in research methodologies) with a research component which culminates in the production of a research dissertation.

With participants from a wide range of educational contexts and disciplines, the M.Ed. offers a dynamic learning environment that aims to foster collaborative and co-operative learning. The high level of involvement by staff of the School of Education in the programme is complemented by guest contributors providing accounts of the research experience. Given the nature of the programme, there is a strong emphasis on developing the capacity for self-directed learning and research, with appropriate support from academic staff and a personal supervisor.
The programme combines a taught element with research in the field of education. It is comprised of two components, totalling 60 ECTS credits.
