postgraduate diploma in professional educational studies (school planning)

The PDPES (School Planning) is a partnership project between the School Development Planning Initiative and NUI Galway, with the support of the Department of Education and Science. The Diploma is open to all practicing teachers in schools, colleges of further education and other similar educational organisations.
The Diploma aims to develop and enhance skills relevant to school planning, policy development and change processes within a sound theoretical framework, focusing on capabilities required to:
- Act as an internal change agent in school in a leadership, coordination or resource capacity
- Act as a facilitator in school, empowering participants in the planning process
- Provide a research resource to the Department of Education and Science, contributing to policy development and implementation at a system level
The Diploma also offers pathways to higher post-graduate degrees. Such pathways are currently open to Masters level in NUI, Galway, and it is hoped to develop these further in the future.
The Diploma course is part-time and is delivered over one academic year in Education Centres throughout the country. The training workshops and teaching sessions are facilitated by members of the School Development and Planning Initiative (SDPI) support team under the leadership of a National Co-ordinator and an independent Academic Advisor for the course.
The course comprises three modules:
1. The Context of School Planning (15 ECTS)
2. The Planning Process.(15 ECTS)
3. Facilitation Skills and Practical Experience. (30ECTS)
