Practical Teaching Programme: Block Teaching Programme (20 ECTS)
Students will spend at least 15 hours per week in a school placement for a period of 12 weeks. During this placement, students will engage in all of the professional duties of a practicing teacher both in the classroom and within the greater school community.
Full-Year Module:
Mathematics: Final-Year Project: (10 ECTS)
Students work individually with a member of the mathematics staff to complete a project on a mathematical topic of their choosing. The timeline for completion of the project will be set on an individual basis.
Semester 2:
Research in Education (5 ECTS)
This module will offer students an opportunity to explore how educational research has developed and influenced international trends in education policy and practice. Students will both examine existing research, analyse their own research experience during their teaching practice, and discuss potential for future research, particularly in the field of Mathematics Education.
Final-Year Symposium (5 ECTS): This module focuses on professional conferences and symposiums as a means to showcase research and support collaboration between education professionals locally, nationally, and internationally. It will culminate in students organising and hosting their own symposium in which they will present a piece of work in a relevant area of education, mathematics, or mathematics education.
Algebraic Structures (5 ECTS): This module will entail a comprehensive introduction to modern abstract algebra, in particular to the study of algebraic structures such as groups, rings, fields and division algebras.
Theories of Mathematical Thinking (5 ECTS): In this module students will engage in a study of contemporary research in mathematics education at secondary and tertiary level.
Further Mathematics Options (10 ECTS): Students choose two additional elective mathematics modules.
