Information Technology

Dr. Duggan’s interest is in policy modelling to investigate the feedback interactions between economical and energy policies and the environment. He is lead investigator with the System Dynamics Research Group at NUI Galway, and specialises in the design of computational methods to model complex social systems.

Insight (Permanent)

I am Senior Lecturer at the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG), vice-director of the Insight Centre for Data Analytics at NUIG and head of the Insight Unit for Natural Language Processing. My main research interests are in the development and use of Natural Language Processing methods and solutions for semantic-based information access. I have been involved in a large number of national and international funded projects in this area. In recent years we developed the Saffron framework for knowledge extraction, which has been used in industry applications with Irish Times, Kennys and HP. Another line of recent research is on the definition and implementation of lemon, a vocabulary for Linguistic Linked Data, which was developed in the context of the EU funded project Monnet and is currently being applied in EU projects such as LIDER , EuroSentiment and MixedEmotions.

Adjunct Staff in Insight

Dr. Alessandra Mileo is currently a Senior Research Fellow, Adjunct Lecturer and Unit Leader at the INSIGHT Centre for Data Analytics, National University of Ireland Galway. She holds an MSC and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Milan, Italy. Before Joining the Digital Enterprise Research Institute (DERI, NUIG) in 2010, she was a Post-doctoral Researcher at the Nomadis Lab, Dept. of Informatics, Systems and Communication of the University of Milano-bicocca, conducting interdisciplinary research activities involving Ambient Intelligence and Knowledge-driven Sensor Fusion, which converged in the succesful EU project proposal EasyReach, AAL, 2009-2-17, as well as the establishment of a spin-off company in 2009, now called Contexta.
Dr. Muhammad Intizar Ali is an Adjunct Lecturer & Research at the National University of Ireland, Galway. He obtained his Ph.D. (with distinction) from Vienna University of Technology, Austria in 2011. He also holds Assistant Professor position (sabbatical leave) at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology, Lahore. His research interests include Semantic Web, Data Integration, Internet of Things (IoT), Linked Data, Federated Query Processing, Stream Query Processing and Optimal Query Processing over large scale distributed data sources.
