It is with deepest sorrow that the NUI Galway College of Engineering and Informatics has heard of the tragic passing of Micheál Ryan in the air crash in Ethiopia on Sunday. The Dean of the College of Engineering and Informatics, Professor Peter McHugh said, “Our deepest and most sincere condolences go out to Micheál’s family and friends at this time of terrible loss. Micheál is fondly remembered here in the College, and he was a wonderful ambassador for our University and our engineering programmes. His selfless commitment to relief work in developing countries represents all that is best of our graduates, and is a true inspiration to us all.” The Head of Civil Engineering at NUI Galway, Professor Padraic O’Donoghue said, “Micheál graduated with honours in Civil Engineering from NUI Galway in 2000.  He was one of the students in the first cohort of graduates in our Environmental stream, thus beginning a distinguished career that was very much focused on people and the environment.”
