The College of Engineering and Informatics offers a wide range of taught and research programmes across all disciplines. Thus, students may pursue a course of study in Civil Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Engineering Hydrology, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical & Biomedical Engineering and Information Technology. 

Masters and PhD degrees may be undertaken in all disciplines. Summary information in regard to both the generic research degrees and taught postgraduate programmes of the College is contained below. 

The directed research work introduces candidates to the processes by which new knowledge is developed and provides them with a deeper understanding of some more advanced topics in their chosen discipline. 

Disciplines may be in a position to fund some Masters and Doctoral students through research funding derived from external sources. In addition, the College offers a number of fellowships each year to both Masters and Doctoral PhD students.

Applicants may also wish to pursue their postgraduate studies in the major research institutes in the university and many of these are affiliated to the College of Engineering and Informatics. These include the National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Science, the Digital Enterprise Research Institute, the Environmental Change Institute and the Martin Ryan Institute for Marine Science. Graduates with good Honours degrees in Engineering and Information Technology from this and other recognised Universities may be admitted to postgraduate study in the College as Master or PhD students.

Engineering students who enter postgraduate study directly from their undergraduate courses are normally admitted to the Master of Engineering Science (MEngSc) programme or in some cases to the Degree of Philosophiae Doctor (PhD) programme. The MEngSc Degree may be obtained by course work with a minor thesis or by research work with a major thesis. 

The Master of Applied Science (MApplSc) is available in a broad range of disciplines to non Engineering graduates who wish to study in the College. 

Students of Information Technology generally study for the Master of Science (MSc) and Degree of Philosophiae Doctor (PhD).
