Pre-Masters English Language Pathway
Programme Overview
The Pre-Masters English Language Pathway Programme is a modular course designed to develop proficiency in the core linguistic areas (reading, writing, listening, speaking) and to equip students with the essential academic skills for postgraduate study. Students will also be required to undertake a minor research project relevant to their chosen academic programme.
Aimed at students who:
- Must attend as a condition of entry to chosen postgraduate degree at NUI Galway
- Require the minimum IELTS entry level to apply for chosen postgraduate degree

- Academic Skills; Research, Communication, Academic Writing, Presentations
- Intercultural Studies
- Orientation to NUI Galway's learning technologies and support services
Course Objectives
- Develop students' English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and academic skills for successful transition to postgraduate study.
- Develop students' learner skills for group tasks and independent study and research
- Orientation to Irish culture and life at NUI Galway including learning technologies and student support services

Other Information
- Course book/materials: €150
- Registration fee: €50
- IMPORTANT: The academic entry requirements are an IELTS band of 5.5 where a score of 5.0 is permitted in one component band only and where all other bands must be a minimum of band 5.5 or higher
- Students must have successfully completed a recognised Bachelor Degree
- Final acceptance onto the Pre-Masters English Language Pathway Programme is at the discretion of the Programme Director
- Students must be 18 years or over to join programme
- There must be a minimum of five students enrolled to proceed with all courses
- Maximum class size is 12 students

- No classes take place at weekends or on national/public holidays
- Please note: as this programme begins during term time it will not be possible to book on-campus accommodation. On-campus accommodation will become available on Monday, 21 May 2018.
