The
Academic Calendar provides the schedule for formal University examinations.
For any other assessments e.g. practicals or Multiple Choice Question exams arranged by your School or College, you will be advised directly by your lecturers or by your School/College office.

A. The
examination timetable release date is available on the Examinations Office website.
The examination timetable should not be used for planning flights as the timetable may change.
Q. How do I access my personal exam timetable?
A. Access your personal exam timetable online by selecting the appropriate exam session e.g. Semester 1.
Q. Why is my Personal Timetable missing an Exam?
A. You must register for this exam by contacting the
Student Information Desk (Tel. 091-495999 email

nuigalway.ie). You will then sit your exam in the Late Entries Room. The
Student Information Desk will give you a form with the relevant details.

A. You must check your registration by contacting the
Student Information Desk (Tel. 091-495999 email

nuigalway.ie). Once your registration has been corrected, you can ignore this exam on your personal timetable.

Q. Can I bring a dictionary into the exam?
A. Erasmus (1EM1) and Visiting students (1OA1), only, whose mother tongue is not English are allowed the use of a language dictionary, from mother tongue to English and vice-versa only. However, dictionaries may not be used at the following examinations: French, German, Italian and Spanish. Dictionaries will be subject to inspection by the Invigilator during the Examination.
Q. What permitted material may I bring in to the exam?
A. Only materials specifically listed on the exam paper are permitted in the exam. For example, depending on your course of study, if log tables are listed as required by the examiner, it is indicated on the exam paper, and log tables are normally provided on the day by the Examinations Office. If log tables are not listed as permitted material on the exam paper, then bringing such material into the exam hall is in breach of exam regulations.
Q. What if I cannot find my student ID card?
A. There is a fine of €30 if you do not have your ID card for verification of identity and registration in the exam hall. Please note that the Student Information Desk opens early in the morning during exam sessions to ensure that students can obtain a replacement ID card in time for the first exam.
A. For the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Celtic Studies, ’Pass by Compensation’ means that you do not have to repeat the exam.
It is recommended that you check the rules for your particular course. If you have any queries about progressing or subject choice for next year, please contact your College Office directly.

Q. I feel that I did better in my exam than the mark I received - what are my options to get the result checked or appealed?
A. You have the option of a recheck and/or an appeal of an exam mark.
It is strongly recommended that you first consult with your lecturer about the exam mark before applying a recheck.
In order to apply for an appeal, you
must consult your lecturer in advance.
A
consultation day is available for students to meet with lecturers on-campus.

Q. If I fail exams, what is the process for repeating?
A. As a first step, consult your College handbook to check if a repeat exam sitting opportunity is available for your course. Contact details for College Offices.
If a repeat exam sitting is available for your course and if you fail the first sitting of a formal written examination, you are automatically listed to sit the repeat exam at the second sitting e.g. if you fail a Semester 2 Summer exam, you are automatically listed to sit the repeat exam in the Autumn. The Autumn timetable is published online on 16 July 2012 and after this date, you can check your personal exam timetable online.
If you a fail an exam/module which was not a formal written examination (e.g. essay, project, continuous assessment), please contact your School/College to discuss your options.
Note that there is a fee for repeat examinations.
Q. Can I repeat a subject/module that I have passed?
A. No. Students are not permitted to retake subjects/modules which have been previously passed.

Q. How much is the repeat examination fee?
A. If you are attending the repeat examinations, or are repeating any form of assessment/assignment/coursework, you are liable to pay the repeat examination fee of €195. This is an overall cost i.e. regardless of how many exams you repeat in the session.
Q. When is the repeat examination fee due?
A. The repeat examination fee is due as soon as possible following the release of results. Students can sit the repeat examination even if the repeat fee has not yet been paid. However, please note that results for repeat exams will be withheld if the repeat fee remains outstanding.
