As a repeat student in 2009/10, you are required to contact the First Year Coordinator in your individual subjects and to register with each department of the four subjects you are taking in First Arts. Please note the following new system applies to you:
| 1. | Each of your subjects are subdivided into three 5 ECTS modules. Some of these modules are taught in Semester 1 and some are taught in Semester 2. Semester 1 examinations take place in December and Semester 2 examinations take place in April. Each subject will have one year-long module which will be assessed solely by continuous assessment. |
|
2. |
If you have previously passed (a) a single 7.5 ECTS module in a subject, you will be obliged to register for two further modules at 5 ECTS each in that subject. (b) two 2.5 ECTS in a subject, you will be obliged to register for two modules at 5 ECTS each in that subject. (c) one 2.5 ECTS only in a subject, you must register for all 15 ECTS in that subject or an alternative subject being selected. |
| 3. | For registration and examination purposes all modules within subjects will be coded individually and examined separately. |
| 4. | Each subject must be passed at 40% or higher. |
| 5. | Repeating students are obliged to attend in each of their modules and at least one third of the marks in the year will be earned through coursework, essays, projects etc. Please note that submission deadlines must be strictly adhered to. |
| 6. | Modules within a subject which are failed at the First Sitting of Examinations (December or April) must be repeated in May. Please note that there are no Autumn Examinations. |
| 7. | Students who are repeating First Year are not permitted to re-register for restricted entry subjects such as Legal Science and Psychology in order to progress with those subjects in Second Arts. Students who had not registered for either Legal Science or Psychology in their first attempt at First Arts may select these subjects in First Arts 2009-10 providing they select three new subjects in addition to Legal Science or Psychology. |
| 8. | Students registering for Modern Languages or Gaeilge should note that they will be required to pass (40% or higher) the language component of the subject in order to progress to Second Arts in that subject. An achievement of 50% overall in Beginner’s German is required for students to progress with German in Second Arts. Students studying Léann an Aistriúcháin in First Arts must achieve 60% in that subject to progress to Second Arts. |
| 9. | The Vice-Dean (First Year Experience) in the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Celtics Studies is Dr. Deirdre Byrnes. She will be supported by Ms. Catherine McCurry, Room 217A, First Floor, Arts Millennium Building. If you are experiencing any problems in your repeat year please contact Ms. McCurry initially. |
