Research Interests
For her Ph.D. Judith investigated the fluid flow and resulting temperature fields in a rapid compression machine using a 2-dimensional moving CFD model. The model was built using STAR-CD to simulate the processes in the unique twin-piston rapid compression machine in NUI Galway. It was used to investigate the sensitivity of the horizontally opposed pistons to non-synchronisation and factors that determine the design of an optimal piston head device were identified. Recommendations of optimal piston head designs for the Galway RCM were made. The model was then used to simulate the combustion of hydrogen in the RCM by linking it to a chemical kinetic mechanism for hydrogen combustion.
After taking a career break to start a family, Judith rejoined the Combustion Chemistry Centre in September 2009 as a project Manager where she looked after all ongoing projects.
In August 2012 Judith was appointed University Teacher in the School of Chemistry.
