The annual College of Engineering and Informatics Research Day took place on 15th April 2010.
Here you can find links to all the poster abstracts submitted by our PhD students to the Research Day. You will find a wide range of current research activity at the College is represented here.
To simplify access we have organized these abstracts into a number of subject groups. Here is a brief summary of each.
Biomedical Engineering Abstracts <link>
These are mainly from the discipline of Mechanical & Biomedical Engineering. The use of finite element modeling as applied to bio-mechanical structures and devices is a strong theme here.
Civil Engineering Abstracts <link>
Research from the discipline of Civil Engineering ranges from Agrictural and Marine Science to more conventional Civil Engineering topics such as Wastewater Management, Energy Generation and Management, and novel Construction Technologies. This diverse selection of research topics demonstrates the adaptability of the Civil Engineer to tackle new problems in many different fields.
DERI <link>
DERI is the Digital Engineering Research Institute and it is a World-leading research center for Semantic Web technologies. Again a wide selection of research topics shows how expertise in Semantic technique can be applied to solve a very diverse set of topical prolems.
Electrical Engineering <link>
Power electronics is a core theme for this discipline. There is also some bioengineering research work on the electrical properties of the human body.
Electronic Engineering <link>
Biomedical engineering is a core theme for this discipline. There is also some research on electronic hardware systems.
Environmental Engineering <link>
Environmental Engineering is closely associated with Civil Engineering. Again we have a range of topics varying from flood modeling to the environmental impact of agricultural activities and also encompassing alternative energy topics.
Information Technology <link>
Information Technology research spans a wide spectrum of computer engineering topics. These compliment the more specialized research carried on by DERI. Topics include Supply Chain Analysis, Internet TV, Wireless Networking, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Computer Gaming technologies and Medical Informatics.
Mechanical Engineering <link>
Again a core Engineering discipline with a wide range of research activities. Examples include studies on Power Plant Efficiency, Corrosion in Seawater, Composite Materials, Models for Memory Polymers, Techniques for improved Metal Alloys and Advanced Finite Element Analysis.
