There are 25 places available on the course each year. Two of these places are reserved for mature student applicants. All applications for the course go directly through the Central Applications Office.

Applicants who have been offered an Undergraduate first-year place in the University may apply for deferral of entry for one year. The application must be made in writing and only in respect of the course in which the offer is made. For further information on how to defer a place, please contact the Admissions office directly.
Though the content of occupational therapy education remains the same throughout all Universities, the various modules of the course are taught at different periods of time. Therefore, it is not possible to transfer to NUI Galway from another university (either in the UK or Republic of Ireland).

Transfers into the B.Sc. (Hons.) in Occupational Therapy from other courses in the University are not possible.

There are some additional costs mainly associated with Practice Education. These include accommodation and travel costs while on placement and vaccinations. Students are required to provide evidence of immunisation against Hepatitis B, BCG, Varicella (Chickenpox), Measles Mumps and Rubella (MMR) before going on placement. In addition, they are also required to purchase uniforms for their clinical placement.
While many of the recommended books for the course are available from the NUIG library, students are advised to purchase some core texts. Students who wish to join the professional occupational therapy association (AOTI) may do so for a small fee.
A master's programme is currently being developed but is not yet available.

The Association of Occupational Therapists of Ireland (AOTI) are the organisation that promote the profession on behalf of all therapists here in Ireland.
This course is being professionally accredited by the Association of Occupational Therapists of Ireland (AOTI) and the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT). On successful completion of this course you will be eligible for membership of the AOTI and WFOT. However, many countries like Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States of America require you to register with their own national body prior to commencing occupational therapy practice in their country.
