CS102: Computer Hardware

1st Year Course Syllabus

20 Lectures [2 per week, starting at the beginning of the 2nd Semester]

• Tuesday 2-3, AM150
• Wednesday 2-3, AC201

Plus 3 software-based assignments

Texts :

There is no specific text book - See 004.22.

• Data Representation:
  binary numbers, 2's complement numbers, hexadecimal, BCD, floating point format numbers, error correcting codes, frequency dependent codes.
• Boolean Algebra:
  operators, truth tables, de Morgan's Rules
• Logic Gates:
  simple electronic circuits, disjunctive normal form, binary decoders/encoders, priority networks, multiplexors, half adder circuit, full adder
• CPU Design:
  The CS1 machine, machine code programming, assembly language programming

Course Assignments:

There will be 3 problem sheets, which will contribute 10% of the total marks for the subject.
