The School of Physics offers research training to
Masters and PhD level, and participates in a number of
taught postgraduate programmes.
Candidates with an honours primary degree (level 9) in physics are encouraged to apply for postgraduate research programmes. In addition, some research supervisors have interdisciplinary interests and welcome applications from graduates in engineering and the life sciences.

The typical approach for identifying a research opportunity is to make contact with a potential Research Supervisor. While, this should be done in the autumn of the year prior to the commencement of the programme, contact can be made at any time.
Discussions with the potential supervisors will provide an outline of potential research projects and will identify opportunities for research funding.
The research supervisor can advise you when to formally apply for a place on the postgraduate programme using the Postgraduate Applications Centre (
PAC).
