Welcome to the Physiology at NUI Galway.
This is one of the longest established disciplines and we are primarily affiliated with the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, but also play a very active role in the Science Faculty. At present, the Department has eight academic staff members, 2 technical staff and one administrative assistant.
We are heavily involved in the delivery of undergraduate teaching to medical, nursing, science and engineering students and to postgraduate teaching in a taught Masters in medical physics, regenerative medicine and biomedical science and many students are also gaining their PhDs through research in our Department.
Discipline offices and teaching areas are located inside the quadrangle.
Our primary undergraduate teaching laboratories have recently relocated to the civil engineering building right in the center of campus. Physiology is the study of how the body works and seeks to gain a greater understand how internal and external alteration can effect human performance in normal and extreme activities.
Physiology covers all aspects of human Biology from your heart, your mind, your body as a whole and how this affects your life it is a multidisciplinary approach to studying human biology. Research opportunities range from the molecular level, to the cellular level, to investigation at the level of the whole body.
