welcome to the discipline of speech and language therapy
The Discipline of Speech and Language Therapy was established in NUI Galway in February 2003 offering a new four-year B.Sc. (Hons.) in Speech and Language Therapy. It is one of four disciplines within the
School of Health Sciences and forms part of the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. Our first group of speech and language therapists in training joined the programme in September 2003 and graduated in 2007.
As collaboration is a fundamental part of our philosopy, the curriculum has been designed in conjunction with practicing Speech and Language therapists and academics. As a young, dynamic and enthusiastic team, we engage a very broad range of teaching and learning strategies such as problem-based learning and the use of multi-media.
The Discipline is located in Áras Moyola, the new purpose built accommodation located at the North End of the University Campus
http://www.nuigalway.ie/campus_map/
It provides excellent facilities for teaching and learning including modern lecture and tutorial rooms, an on-site speech and language therapy clinic, voice analysis facilities, a student resource room and computer suite.
The Discipline's Mission Statement is:
"To prepare speech and language therapists in training to become competent clinicians and independent lifelong learners, by providing a supportive learning environment to explore relevant theory and apply it to clinical practice, with an emphasis on lived experiences."
Further information, including entry requirements can be found in our
programme brochure.
