Background & Qualifications
In November 2005, Clare Carroll (nee O'Shaughnessy) joined the Speech and Language therapy team at NUI Galway. Previous to this position she worked as a senior speech and language therapist for intellectual disability with the HSE from 2000 – 2005 and as a basic grade speech and language therapist from 1996-2000. She obtained a BSc in Speech and Language Pathology from the University of Strathclyde, Jordanhill Campus, Glasgow in 1996. In 1998 she gained an Extra Mural Certificate in Foundation Counselling Skills from NUI Maynooth. Clare studied for a Masters degree in Advanced Practice in Speech and Language Therapy at the University of Ulster and graduated in 2004. Her research project focused on the expectations and perceptions of clients with an intellectual disability of their speech and language therapy service. Clare is currently reading for a doctorate degree at NUI Galway. Her focus is on early intervention services in Ireland. Her research interests include early intervention disability services, integrated care and team working.

Research Awards
2007 HSE Project Grant of 17,000 Euro to support a project aiming to investigate the current understanding of Auditory Processing Disorder (APD), its identification and care pathways among relevant professionals in Ireland.
2006 Millennium Minor Project Fund of 6,800 Euro to support an evaluation of the information sharing process of an integrated care service providing early intervention.
2006 National Disability Authority (NDA) Research Promotion Scheme grant of 16,000 Euro to explore parents’ perceptions of the diagnostic practice of Autistic Spectrum Diagnosis in Co Mayo.
