Global Women's Studies at NUI GalwayThe programme builds on a long-established tradition of Women's Studies at NUIG. It also complements existing strengths of the
School of Political Science and Sociology in development, environmental politics, feminist and gender analyses, globalisation, human rights, international relations, post-colonial studies as well as expertise in the sociology and politics of particular countries and regions in Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America.

HEISE LECTURE Lori Heise spoke on 19 November as part of the Global Women's Studies Lecture Series, 2009-2010. Heise is the director of the Global Campaign for Microbicides and is a well-known advocate and policy expert in the field of women's health and HIV. Other speakers scheduled for the series are Nira Yuval-Davis (March), Naila Kabeer (March) and Naomi Goldbenerg (April). NIAMH REILLY BOOK LAUNCH The launch for Niamh Reilly's new book, Women’s Human Rights: Seeking Gender Justice in a Globalizing Age (Polity Press) took place on 25 November at NUIG's Irish Centre for Human Rights. Speaking at the launch were Centre director Prof Bill Schabas and Dr Breda Gray (Women's Studies, U Limerick). NEW ISSUES PAPER ON GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE, POVERTY AND DEVELOPMENT The launch of Nata Duvvury's issues paper Keeping Gender on the Agenda: Gender Based Violence, Poverty and Development was held on November 6, 2009. NEW GENDER WORKING PAPERS The Gender, Empowerment and Globalisation Research Cluster has issued three new working papers.
