Various forms of assistance available to students who experience financial difficulty including difficulty in paying their fees, a summary and elaboration of which is as follows:
General Information:
Please complete this form and return it to the Fees Office Manager, Manager, Āras Uí Chathail, NUI Galway. ·
All sections must be completed otherwise it will be
returned to student.
Students with outstanding fees will not have exam results released in Summer or Autumn.
Students with outstanding fees will not be conferred.

Application to Student Fee Committee
If difficulty in paying fees results from personal / family financial hardship, application may be made to the “Student Fee Committee” for fee consideration.
This Committee examines cases of students who are unable to pay their fees for financial hardship reasons. The Committee also examines students who may wish to appeal late registration and late payment fines.
Students must be registered with NUI Galway at the time of application to the Committee in order to have their case considerate. Registration requires a minimum payment of the student levy of €224 and 50% of the fee elements collectable from the student (i.e. tuition and student contribution for Undergraduates and tuition for Postgraduates).
Applicants must complete and sign this application
form, include any relevant supporting documentation (e.g. bank statement, P45, statement of earnings, social welfare documentation etc) and return it to the Fees Office Manager, Āras Uí Chathail, NUI Galway.
Types of fee consideration that may be granted by the Committee include:
· A time extension for the payment of fees
· Transfer of fees paid from one year to another due to de-registration or not completing the academic year
· Refund of fees
· Write off of fee due to de-registration
· Deferral of 2nd instalment of fees

Application for Reduction of Repeat Fees on Extenuating Circumstances
Application to Director of Financial Accounting (DFA) for reduction of fees on extenuating circumstances i.e. medical issues, family bereavement. The DFA can grant a reduction of up to 50% of repeat fee due based on medical evidence submitted and relevant recommendations from other sources (i.e. Academic Staff, College Counsellor, and College GP). In order to progress this application for a reduction of repeat fees on extenuating circumstances please pay 50% of total fee due to register.
Applicants must complete and sign this application form and return it to the Fees Office Manager, Manager, Āras Uí Chathail, NUI Galway with relevant documentation.
Tax Relief
The
Revenue Commissioners offer tax relief on tuition fees for some third level courses, if you have had to pay the full tuition fees. To be eligible you must be:
- An undergraduate student, on an part-time or full-time course with a duration of at least two year
- A postgraduate student, on a part-time or full-time course with a duration of at least one year.
