Freshwater Research

Freshwater research in the Zoology Department at National University of Ireland, Galway is primarily carried out by Dr. T.K. McCarthy with a number of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Ongoing and past research involves / has involved work on:

  • Eel

  • Coarse Fish

  • Zebra mussels

  • Angling Surveys

  • Fisheries Management

  • Ecological Parasitology

  • Freshwater Community Organisation

Much of the work carried out has concentrated on the Shannon and Corrib / Mask river systems, but has also involves / involved a number of other Irish lake and river systems.
