major departmental research themes

We aim to conduct high quality research of practical benefit to the care of patients contributing to both national and international evidence base. 

We combine both original clinical research and health services research.  Our staff come from many different disciplinary and methodological backgrounds. Work at NUI Galway includes randomised controlled trials, observational studies, qualitative research methods and economic analysis.  We have benefited very much from the experience of our colleagues in many different disciplines, often under the umbrella of the Centre for Clinical Health Services Research and Development ( CCHSRD). 

Our research is firmly based in general practice and primary care and focuses on the provision of first contact, comprehensive, co-ordinated and continuing care.  We were delighted that the  Health Research Board commissioned Mant 2007 Report on Primary Care Research & Development in Ireland identified NUI Galway as the stand alone department of general practice producing the most, and highest quality, research in Ireland!
