I completed my Masters in Economics at NUI Galway in 2004 and my Masters thesis, in conjunction with the East Coast Area Health Board, was titled ’An Economic evaluation of the Slan Abhaile home care programme’. Following this, I worked at Google before undertaking a Ph.D. in Economics at NUI Galway, which I recently completed. My doctoral thesis was titled ’Willingness to Pay for Community Based Care for Older People in Ireland’. This thesis examined preferences and willingness to pay for different types of technology-based programmes that support older people to continue living at home as well as more traditional forms of community based care. Following the completion of my Ph.D., I was a Post-doctoral researcher at the Irish Centre for Social Gerontology and the Department of Economics at NUI Galway. During this time, I was involved in assessing direct and indirect costs associated with obesity and overweight on the island of Ireland as part of Safefood funded research. I was also involved in researching older women workers and their access to pensions in a North-South collaboration with Queens University Belfast as well as understanding the health and well-being of older volunteers in Ireland in conjunction with Active Retirement Ireland. |

| I joined the Discipline of General Practice in July 2012, as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow on the UTI-C Project, which is funded by the Health Research Board of Ireland. The UTI-C project is an interdisciplinary programme involving collaboration between the disciplines of epidemiology, social marketing and health economics. This project will assess the impact of an intervention designed to decrease the overall amount of antimicrobials used in primary care and increase appropriate antimicrobial prescribing for UTI when needed. | |
