The composite nature of the discipline is reflected in the rich diversity of courses on offer in Second Year and Third Year. The conceptual and critical engagement in these years positions ’geography’ as a fundamental academic concern, moving it away from merely descriptive forms of geographical curiosity to a more analytical way of understanding the interactions (human and physical) within the world in which we live.
Courses on offer vary from year to year and span from Rural to Urban Geography; Coastal Environments to Climatology; Historical Geography to Political & Cultural Geography; Environmental Planning to Sustainable Consumption and Biogeography to Geographical Information Systems.
In Second Year the focus is a contemporary one: it strives to illuminate the world of today by exploring and analysing the origins and intricacy of numerous modern-day issues and provides students with the skills that allow them approach the complexity of the contemporary world from an informed position. Students choose from a menu of optional courses, while a central core course in both semesters involves students engaging in research Theory and Practice. Students also have the opportunity to take part in a foreign residential field class.
