NUIG is one of the universities with a well frequented Socrates program. Socrates is Europe's education programme and involves around 30 European countries. Its main objective is precisely to build up a Europe of knowledge and thus provide a better response to the major challenges of this new century: to promote lifelong learning, encourage access to education for everybody, and help people acquire recognized qualifications and skills. Erasmus, the European Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students, is the Higher Education part of Socrates, the EU's education programme. With Erasmus, you could study for 3-12 months in another European country and you may receive a grant towards the costs.
Between second and final year, almost all students avail of the opportunity to spend an additional year (B.A. International) studying both their subjects at a German university. The German Department currently has exchange agreements with Augsburg, Bamberg, Berlin, Bochum, Dresden, Frankfurt, Freiburg, Karlsruhe, Kassel, Leipzig, Mainz and Würzburg.
We welcome visiting students to our department. If you are interested in spending your time abroad at NUI Galway click here. If you have any further queries, don't hesitate to contact us.
We encourage students to spend their time abroad at one of our partner universities. Everybody who is interested in taking part in this exchange program can be provided with a place by us. Further information you can find here.
"The Erasmus year is an excellent opportunity to experience a new culture, travel around Europe and make some unforgettable friends. Without a doubt, it has been the best year of my life so far"
Martha Clancy.
