This is a two-year modular programme and is comprised of seven taught modules, two reflective practice modules and a research dissertation. Modules are subdivided into core modules (common across all programmes at Masters level) and four option modules. The option modules are drawn from a selection that includes education, advanced practice, clincial practice and management. The programme has midwifery practice as the central focus.
The programme is facilitated on line and students attend for 2 one day workshops a semester. A one day introduction to the programme is offered in the Friday prior to the programme commencing.
The aim of this programme is to provide the graduate with the knowledge and skills to meet the changing demands of health care and midwifery practice. Drawing on the experience the students bring, the nature of midwifery and midwifery knowledge is explored in the context of ethical practice and the development of expertise.
Year 1—30 ECTS.
Year 2—60 ECTS.

Candidates must: have attained at least an upper Second Class Honours degree in Nursing/Midwifery or Nursing/Midwifery Studies at H2.1 or at H2.2 with appropriate experience or a Higher Diploma in Midwifery with appropriate experience or meet the required standard in the MHSc Nursing Qualifying Examination; be on the active Register as a midwife; have practised as a midwife for a minimum of two years post-registration (exclusive of post-registration/educational programmes).
Selection is based on applicant's academic and professional qualifications (as above).
Modules are assessed using a variety of approaches.
