There are over 15,000 students currently registered at NUI Galway, with almost a quarter of these being postgraduate students, who are pursuing further studies. The University has academically strong programmes of teaching and research throughout its five Colleges: Arts, Social Sciences, & Celtic Studies; Business, Public Policy, & Law; Engineering & Informatics; Medicine, Nursing, & Health Sciences; and Science. The University is actively engaged in research in a diverse range of subjects and is recognised as a world leader in its particular areas of expertise.

NUI Galway offers intending students opportunities for further personal and academic development, as well as the skills and knowledge necessary to find employment in the modern marketplace. A postgraduate qualification helps you to distinguish yourself in a competitive job market. It also enables you to develop the specialist skills you need to succeed in your chosen field. Our postgraduates are well regarded by employers and find employment soon after completing their programme.  The University’s postgraduate research degrees are of two kinds:

• PhDs with a duration of four years. 
• Research-based Master Degrees of one to two years duration
