Within University of Galway First Aid Responders have completed a certified three day first aid course (valid for two years).  In advance of any emergency staff must familiarise themsleves with the names, locations and contact numbers of the First Aid Responder in their Unit.  Each Unit must communicate this and other critical safety information on the ‌ and display in prominent locations throughout the spaces they occupy.

Other First Aid Resources:

  • AEDs (Defibrillators) on Campus
  • First Aid boxes are positioned around the campus for use by staff and students when required, the boxes are filled twice a year. Should you notice damage or restocking is required please log a ticket on PEMAC.
  • Units completed an Assessment of First Aid Responder Needs in 2021/22 which must be periodically updated.
  • Emergency Response Kits for external first aid emergencies are in 4 locations.
  • First Aid Room (unstaffed) in the Sport Complex (Kingfisher) and Dangan Sports Pavillion
  • An explanatory First Aid Responder Circular is available to staff prior to training.  
  • The Primary Survey is a useful training and refresher resource for OFAs.
  • A University of Galway First Aid Record Form to be completed in all cases where first aid was administered.
  • A Cardiac First Response Report (PHECC) to be completed in the event of a cardiac related incident.  (Provided to Occupational First Aiders at training).
  • "RED Card" (PHECC) giving responders the key points to be covered in making a 999/112 call.  (Provided to First Aid Responders at training and to all staff at events and on request).
  • "Green Card" giving the key points in the administration of Aspirin, where required.  (Provided to First Aid Responders at training).
  • A Laerdal mannequin is available from the Health and Safety Office to University of Galway First Aid Responders who wish to practice their CPR skills.
