Welcome to the NUI Galway Student Health Unit

This practice provides on-campus medical care to full-time registered students in a confidential, professional and courteous manner.

****MEDICAL ALERT ****

As the MUMPS virus appears to be circulating in the NUIG student population at present,  any student who develops swelling/pain affecting their cheek/jaw, on either one or both sides, this may possibly indicate current infection with MUMPS. Such students should stop attending lectures/college and should present to the Student Health Unit or their own GP to confirm/outrule the diagnosis. Please inform reception staff if you suspect you have MUMPS. IF YOU ARE DIAGNOSED WITH MUMPS, YOU MUST FOLLOW THE ISOLATION ADVICE GIVEN TO YOU AND NOT PUT OTHER MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC/FELLOW STUDENTS AT RISK! Further information on MUMPS is available through either of these links:

Opening Hours

Monday - Friday
Mornings
: 9.15am - 12.30pm    Afternoons: 2.30pm - 4.30pm

Summer Opening Hours:  9.30am-12.30pm and 2.30pm-4.30pm Monday to Friday.  This service runs from 28/05/2018-31/08/2018 and is restricted to current registered Post Graduate students only.

The practice operates a walk-in service where appointment times are allocated on a 'First Come First Served' basis.

Data Protection

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is in force as of the 25th of May 2018, replacing the existing data protection framework under the EU Data Protection Directive. A General Practice is a trusted community governed by an ethic of privacy and confidentiality.  In order to provide for the care of the patient, we need to collect and keep information on the patient and their health in their personal medical records.

Our policies are consistent with the Medical Council guidelines and the privacy principles of the Data Protection Regulations. This practice has voluntarily adopted the requirements of 'Processing of Patient Personal Data: A Guideline for General Practitioners'. Confidentiality 

All consultations are completely confidential, and will only be revealed to others with your consent. Your medical notes are also confidential and remain in the Student Health Department.  They do not form part of your academic file.
