General
This multi-disciplinary taught MA programme was established to further an understanding of 'colonialism', 'post-colonialism', and 'neo-colonialism' across a range of disciplines. The teaching staff is drawn from the Departments of English, History, Political Science and Sociology, Economics, Gaeilge, Spanish, German and Classical Civilisation.
Duration
This is a full-time course. It lasts for a full academic year (September to September, including a period for completion of a short dissertation).
Course Content
The programme is assessed on the basis of core courses, option courses, and a dissertation. Core courses include topics such as colonialism and cultural theory; the history of colonialism; political economy; nineteenth-century imperialism; gender and colonialism; and the politics and economics of 'Developement'.
Option courses may include Theatre and Colonialism; Cinema and Colonialism; Gender and the Nation; and an Irish language course,
Coilíneachas agus Domhan na Gaeilge.
Entry Requirements
Students must have a good honours degree in the Arts or Social Sciences (equivalent to approximately U.S. GPA 3.5) in one or more of the following subjects: History, Literature, Sociology, Politics, or Economics.
