General
This programme is based on an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to the study of Irish culture and society, in its historical and contemporary settings. Its broad range of academic disciplines, its unique language dimension, and the dissertation requirement, combine to ensure an understanding of the key developments in Irish culture and society down through the centuries. The course is taught by staff from several departments, including History.
Duration
This is a full-time course, lasting for two years.
Course Content
Language and Literature in Ireland, in Irish and English; Social and Political Culture; Archaeology; History; Irish Folklore; Theatre; Nationalism and Ideology. The course is assessed by examinations and a minor dissertation.
Entry Requirements
Candidates will normally have a good honours primary degree, but need not have specialised in the main disciplines represented in the MPhil programme in Irish Studies.
