The Writing Centre: The Academic Writing Centre is a free drop-in facility where students can come and work on a one-to-one basis with qualified tutors in an informal setting.
BA History students must pass all History modules in first year to continue on to 2nd year BA History. Students who were enrolled as BA Omnibus in first year, but who wish to follow the BA Honours in second and final year may apply to do this, as long as they have passed all first year History modules and have permission from the head of first year (Dr Gearoid Barry) and the Head of Department (Prof. Steven Ellis).

Assessment is a combination of continuous assessment and examination. The Colloquium is a 10 ECTs module and is assessed by continuous assessment. The colloquium mark is 1/3 of the overall mark for 2nd year. The Practice of History I and II are assessed through essay. Lecture modules are assessed either through mid-term and essay or mid-term and final exam. Which method is determined by the department in line with the examination structure. The method of assessment for each module is announced by the lecturer at the beginning of term and is noted in the BA History (Single Honours) Handbook.
