Andrew Simpkin. Research Associate, School of Community and Social Medicine, University of Bristol.
PhD in Biostatistics (2010)
Andrew is currently a research associate at the School of Community and Social Medicine, University of Bristol. The project involves growth modelling, specifically of prostate specific antigen (PSA) in men with untreated, localised prostate cancer. PSA is used to monitor men with low risk disease so that those with progressing characteristics can be offered further clinical review, while those with stable PSA can avoid the side effects common after radical intervention. They are using variants of GLMMs to construct reference ranges from data collected in various cohort studies. If successful, these are to be integrated into an online or physican device for use by clinicians to aid treatment choice during monitoring.
