Brian
Farrell is Director of Academic Support at the University of Iowa College of
Law and an Adjunct Lecturer in Law and International Studies. He is also a co-founder and director of the
Innocence Project of Iowa. After law
school, Brian clerked for the Iowa District Court for the Seventh
Judicial District. He has practiced law
in Iowa and Georgia, primarily in the areas of criminal defense, appeals, and
postconviction relief. His
doctoral thesis topic is 'The Right to Habeas Corpus in International Law' and
is supervised by Dr. Kathleen Cavanaugh.
Brian has recently been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant
to lecture at Sofia University during the 2012-13 academic year. Farrell will teach in the law
faculty at the university, located in Bulgaria's capital. He is one of
approximately one thousand U.S. faculty members and professionals who
will travel abroad through the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program in
2012-13.
Since its establishment in 1946 under legislation introduced by the late
Senator J. William Fulbright, the Fulbright Program has given
approximately 300,000 students, scholars, teachers, artists, and
scientists the opportunity to study, teach, and conduct research,
exchange ideas, and contribute to finding solutions to shared
international concerns. Recipients of Fulbright grants are selected on
the basis of academic or professional achievement, as well as
demonstrated leadership potential in their fields. The Program operates
in over 155 countries worldwide.
