The Attribution of International Human Rights Law and Humanitarian Law Rights and Obligations to Armed Opposition Groups
This research examines the legal and practical realities surrounding the attribution of human rights and humanitarian law to armed opposition groups. To be effective, the law must respond to the actualities of authority. The attribution of obligations has evident benefits for civilian populations, as well as long-term conflict management possibilities.
The research question can be divided into two constituent components. First, are international human rights law and international humanitarian law rights and obligations applicable to armed oppositions groups, and if so to what extent? Second, can a more comprehensive framework of attribution be developed, in light of existing legal standards, to regulate future attribution and legal and jurisprudential development?
