LL.M. Programmes
The Irish Centre for Human Rights presently offers LL.M. programmes in
International Human Rights Law,
International Criminal Law, and

European Masters in Human Rights and Democratisation,
an EU initiative, and the University of Malta's Master of Arts in Human

School of Law (& Irish Centre for Human Rights)
and from there, the particular LLM programme to which you wish to
apply. You may apply to more than one programme at the Centre.
The 2012-2013 Programme begins on September 3, 2012 running for 12 weeks. Second semester begins on January 7th, 2013 and runs for 12 weeks. Please note that the third and final term during which students undertake research and writing on their thesis (no taught classes) takes place over the summer months. During this time students are not required to remain in Galway (with approval of their supervisor), but are expected to carry out research and preparation of their LLM thesis. The due date for the LLM thesis is mid August 2013.
Staff at the Irish Center for Human Rights also work with students undertaking an LL.M. Degree and Doctorate by Research.
Students should note that the LLM courses are instructed in English. The University requires that students are able to effectively engage in English in order to successfully complete the course (all exams are in the English language). Therefore, prospective students (not being native English speakers) are required to undertake an English+ anguage course before undertaking the LLM. The required scores are as follows: IELTS: 6.5; TOEFL (paper-based): 580; TOEFL (computer-based): 240; and TOEFL (internet-based): 92.
One of the questions most frequently asked by potential applicants is if the Centre accepts applications to our LLM programmes from students who do not have a law background; the answer is YES. For more details on
entry requirements, please read the Admissibility Requirements section
which is included in each of the individual LLM programmes (just select
the one you are interested in from the list above and when you click on
to that particular site, scroll down and read through the information.
Admissibility criteria appears just after the list of course syllabi).
