the social, political & religio-cultural history of medieval Europe, 11th-12th centuries, particularly in France, women in medieval society, most notably, aristocratic women, women visionaries, & medical views of women;
gender & lordship, aristocratic society & ’the feudal transformation’,the first crusade & the history of crusading,ecclesiastical reform & new religious movements,medieval historical writing & uses of the past in the middle ages, charters & chronicles, with special emphasis on diplomatic & the rhetorics of narrative,Europeans’ encounters with non-Europeans & travels in Asia,manuscript studies, including Latin palaeography, codicology, & textual transmission
