Indoor Air Pollution Assessments
Assessing how air pollution in homes affects our health
The second part of the IAPAH project will involve assessing how long term exposure to indoor air pollution affects our health. Information collected in the first part of the project on the levels of indoor air pollution produced by burning fuel or tobacco at home will be used in this assessment. We will estimate how much of a burden chronic exposure to indoor air pollution adds to public heath in Ireland and Scotland.
To estimate the public health burden, we need to obtain and to link together information about:
- How many people are exposed to this type of pollution in their homes?
- What the levels of indoor pollutants within these homes and how do levels vary between homes and over time
- Results from published studies that linking long-term exposure to air pollution with ill health and disease outcomes.
- Information on the natural rate of ill health and disease experienced by the population of interest.
