	About Us The Irish Centre for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Research (ICAN) is a Centre of Excellence dedicated to ensuring improvements for all individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) through education and training, research, and service provision. Our mission is to generate and disseminate empirically validated knowledge which will shape best practice in the areas of policy, education and intervention. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a spectrum of neurodevelopmental conditions, characterised by difficulties in communication, forming relationships, developing language in using abstract concepts. ASD affects 1:100 people and the lack of services in Ireland places an enormous burden on families. We provide high-level research-led education and training for practitioners in the management and care of persons with a diagnosis of ASD and other neurodevelopmental conditions. We conduct innovative research that will increase our knowledge and will lead to more effective outcomes for individuals with ASD and other neurodevelopmental conditions; We make an important contribution to Autism services as our students are placed in Early Intensive Behavioural Intervention services that are home and school based ASD Units within mainstream schools, special schools and adult services. ICAN is collaborating with Aspergers Action Galway to deliver a social skills training programme to children and adolescents with Aspergers syndrome. As ICAN expands we will provide outreach supports to existing services and the wider community. The centre also aims to provide family intervention in the form of parent and sibling education and training.

Conference Keynote Speakers

ICAN, in partnership with Autism Speaks and The American Ireland Fund, hosted Ireland's first International Autism Conference, 'Autism Spectrum Disorder: from Clinical Practice to Educational Provision' on January 12th - 13th, 2012.

	Students on the MSc in ABA are placed in Early Intensive Behavioural Intervention programmes, ASD Units and Adult Services.
