Teaching
Galway has a strong tradition in research and teaching in rural development. Over two hundred students have graduated from the university's Master of Rural Development programme since its inception in 1985, and a web-based B.Sc. in Rural Development has been launched recently in collaboration with UCC, NUI Maynooth and UCD. The university has strong links with Teagasc and with the Walsh Fellowship programme, and supports the training and studies of many post-graduate researchers in the area of rural development.
B.Sc. in Rural Development - This is a web-based, distance learning programme, which is a collaborative venture between four universities. It is offered as a National University of Ireland (NUI) degree by NUI Galway, NUI Cork, NUI Dublin and NUI Maynooth.
Master of Rural Development - This course is designed to equip participants with a greater theoretical knowledge of rural development, while also developing existing professional knowledge and skills. The programme aims to provide participants with a thorough examination of particular aspects of rural development, while also fostering the analytical, evaluative and prescriptive skills in their development roles.
