Volunteering with Ability West
Mark Jennings, 4th year Civil Engineering student
Mark volunteers through Ability West, an organisation that support people with intellectual disabilities. A few hours every month, he spends time out with a person who has an intellectual disability. They might go swimming or bowling or watch a movie. Ability West are accommodating and Mark volunteers whenever suits his schedule.

Community Engagement in Engineering
Students: Alan Divilly and John Joe Finn, 3rd year Mechanical Engineering students
The service learning module helps show students how engineers can make contributions to their communities as well as helping them to meet and interact with people from different backgrounds in a role of service. As part of the service learning module of their Mechanical Engineering course at NUI Galway, Alan and John Joe have designed and developed a mobile, fold up, wheelchair ramp for disabled people.
