Our Campus

Since the University opened the doors of the Quadrangle in 1845, the campus has always been developing to accommodate ever-increasing numbers of students.

The Campus Today

From the majestic Arts Millennium Building to the Marine Science Institute, and the Cairnes Graduate School of Business and Public Policy, Galway's large campus and buildings reflect the many disciplines and students that are catered for.

The campus offers high class facilities for teaching and research and a wealth of amenities for a rich and fulfilling student life. Students can take part in many sports and recreational activities in the Student Centre, or de-stress in the brand-new Sports centre.

The Campus of the Future

In 2006, NUI Galway embarked on a visionary development programme aimed at improving the University's campus facilities, academic programmes and student amenities. The University is well on the way to creating the Campus of the Future, welcoming more students each year and developing as a prestigious and innovative University

This major investment programme, includes planning for new buildings, as well as extensions and renovations of existing facilities. The new sports centre opened its doors in 2008 and there many exciting developments on the way.

What's planned

The University's priority projects include a cultural centre, a new Engineering Building which will bring together all of the Engineering departments, a Science Research Centre and a Translational Research Centre. The University's historical centre, the Quandrange will be renovated and an extension to the Hardiman library is also planned.

There are also impressive plans to re-integrate the River Corrib with the campus buildings and roadways while improving the movement of traffic and people around the campus.

The programmme carries a €400 million euro price-tag and a portion of this must be raised from Alumni, friends and benefactors.  Any contribution towards this solid investment in education is greatly appreciated. Find out how to donate to the programme.
