The scenarios whereby you might be disposing of computer equipment are:
Equipment which is broken and unusable please contact Sinéad Higgins, Environmental Manager, Buildings Office (email
sinead.higgins
nuigalway.ie). The Buildings Office, in the first instance, will make this equipment available to the
Camara Society. If the equipment can be reused, the hard drive is wiped and the machine recycled in accordance with relevant legislation and sent to Africa to enhance the delivery of education there.
Equipment which cannot be reused is collected from a central location by waste management service contractor
City Bin Co and delivered to
Rehab Recycle, who wipe or guillotine hard drives as part of a certified process.
If you have obtained a new computer and you wish to re-allocate your old computer within the University, it must be in good working order and meet the minimum specification for connection to the NUI Galway wired network.
A. Ensure that your data has been backed up and removed

B. Wipe computer
Log a call with the
Service Desk and arrange a time with the assigned technician to bring the unit to Information Solutions and Services. The computer will then be wiped and re-imaged with the standard NUI Galway Operating System and software. You will then be notified to have the unit collected from Information Solutions and Services.
C. Node Registration
Advise the new owner of the computer that they need to complete a Node Move Form before re-connecting the computer to the campus network –

This applies to computers that do not meet the
minimum specification for connection to the NUI Galway wired network but are still in working order. It is recommended that these computers should be given to a charity; Information Solutions and Services recommend contacting CKI in NUI Galway for more details (email
