Q. What is a CD-R?
A. Compact Disc Recordable
A CD-R is a compact disc that can be recorded on only once. Once the data has been written ('burned'), it is permanent and cannot be erased.
Even though the disc surface is only ’write once’, the disk can be appended many times until it is full by use of 'multi-session’ standard technology.
Each recording ’session’ has to be opened and closed on the disc using the ’multi-session’ standard (this is termed ’fixation’). When a recording session is fixated, it is entered into the disc’s table of contents – thereafter it can be read in a conventional CD-ROM drive.
