What is EndNote?

EndNote is a bibliographic management software package designed to manage citation information. With EndNote you can: create and maintain your own searchable database of references; insert citations into word processing documents; and format references and bibliographies in a variety of styles.

Does NUI, Galway have a site licence for EndNote software?

Yes. NUI, Galway has signed up with Eduserv/CHEST for a site licence agreement.  The licence agreement is reviewed on a yearly basis. It should be noted that 'home use' of EndNote is not permitted. Details of the agreement are available online.

How can I get EndNote software for my computer?

  The site licence allows registered students of the University to purchase personal copies of the software ( see below for details).  For off-campus use: EndNote Web is a new edition of EndNote
  
  
• Staff
  Staff can borrow installation CD from the ISS Service Desk for on-campus use only

  To install software on your on campus machine you must be login as an administrator

  EndNote X2.0.2 Windows Updated available Once EndNote X2 is intalled, go to Help menu > EndNote Program Updates and click Next. Note: While the update is titled X2.0.2, the "About EndNote" description remains "X2.0.1 (Build 3514) afer installation.

  The EndNote X1.0.1 update for Windows XP and Vista is now available free of charge to EndNote X1 users. The update includes the following most-wanted features: * EndNote for Windows Mobile / Pocket PC * Expanded groups; create hundreds of groups in each EndNote library * Formatting support for Open Office Type (ODT) files using the Format Paper command * The reference preview now displays active URLs for quick access * Over 50 additional updates and improvements

Can I install EndNote software on my home computer?

No. A personal copy must be purchased for installation on any machine that is not owned or operated by National University of Ireland, Galway.  It is possible for staff and students to purchase their own copy of the desktop packages EndNote or Reference Manager from Adept4Education, Adept Scientific's software store at http://edustore.adeptscience.co.uk/

Home use of personal copies is permitted, subject to the usage terms outlined in the  ISI ResearchSoft product licence agreement. End users utilising personal copies may purchase upgrades at the personal copy price during the term of the Agreement, providing the End User is still employed or enrolled in NUI Galway at the time the upgrade is released.

Known Issues

• When I try to use any of the EndNote tools in Word, nothing happens.
• After installing EndNote and opening Microsoft Word, I do not see the EndNote toolbar or commands under the Tools menu. How can I fix this?
