PC Suites, LabStats reporting tool

What is LabStats?

LabStats is a tool which reports on PC Suite status and usage of both computers and the software that they offer.

LabStats is used to provide Free Seat Information online about PC Suites currently available and this information is also shown on display screens on-campus. 

Software application usage is tracked on a PC Suite basis. Software usage was monitored on a pilot basis for the academic year 2007/2008. For the academic year 2008/2009 onwards, software usage in the PC Suites is tracked to inform the software requests process. Where software is rarely used, it will be proposed for deletion from PC Suites for the next academic year.

LabStats public information is available online showing current and historical computer usage in the PC Suites. All other information is password protected.

Who can use LabStats?

Free Seat Information and LabStats public information is available to all.
Further reports e.g. of software usage in PC Suites, are available to NUI Galway staff only, on request to the Service Desk (Tel. x5777 eMail servicedesknuigalway.ie).

Technical Information

A LabStats client agent is installed on each computer (Windows, Linux or Macintosh) in the PC Suites which sends data to a central database which is stored on the LabStats server in Information Solutions and Services.
