The line of Macromedia products is now controlled by  Adobe Systems, which acquired Macromedia on December 3, 2005.
Note: Macromedia Studio software was updated to  Adobe Creative Suite 3 Web Standard. 

What is Macromedia Studio?

Macromedia Studio is a suite of tools to help you design, develop and maintain websites, applications, interactive media and mobile content. Macromedia Studio consists of:

What is Macromedia Director?

Macromedia Director is a multimedia authoring tool for the creation of content and applications for CDs, DVDs, kiosks, and the Internet.

Does NUI, Galway have a site licence for Macromedia Studio & Macromedia Director software?

No, NUI,Galway no longer has a site licence for this product. The site licence expired on 15 March 2008. However, NUI, Galway does have a Contractual Licensing Programme Agreement with Adobe, which allows staff at the University to buy licences for Adobe products at considerably reduced rates.

How can I get Macromedia software for my computer?

• Macromedia Studio and Director are available in limited PC Suites – search online for relevant PC suites at www.nuigalway.ie/information-solutions-and-services/suites/suites.php
  Macromedia software will not be generally available in the PC Suites from the academic year 2008-2009 onwards. An alternative product to Macromedia Studio, Microsoft Expression Studio 2 is available in all PC Suites.

  Students cannot avail of the contractual licensing programme. However, students can avail of educational pricing for Adobe software licences by contacting Micromail Ltd. ( Alicemicromail.ie or  Diarmuidmicromail.ie)

  Staff of NUI, Galway can purchase Adobe software licences from our reseller for the Adobe contractual licensing programme - Micromail Ltd. Please click here for pricing and purchase procedure.

Can I install Macromedia software on my home computer?

One licence will allow you to install the software on two PCs operated by you (e.g. your home PC and office PC) so long as only one copy is in use at any one time.  The licence is assigned to the purchaser; it is not possible to share one licence between two different people. The licence is not tied to the operating system platform as long as the software is available for both Windows and Mac e.g. Photoshop . However, you will need to use a different installation CD for Windows and Macintosh versions.
